These functions are available in addition to SQLite's [built-in aggregate functions](https://www.sqlite.org/lang_aggfunc.html) and [built-in scalar functions](https://www.sqlite.org/lang_corefunc.html). ## Statistics | Function | What it does | | - | - | | `median(x)` | Median of the group. | | `lower_quartile(x)`, `upper_quartile(x)` | First and third quartile of the group. | | `mode(x)` | Most frequent value in the group. | | `stdev(x)` | Sample standard deviation. Note the spelling: `stdev`, not `stddev`. | | `variance(x)` | Sample variance. | ```sql theme={null} SELECT median(value), stdev(value) FROM readings; ``` These are aggregates only and cannot be used as window functions with `OVER`. On empty or all-`NULL` input, `median()` and `mode()` return `NULL`, while `stdev()` and `variance()` return 0.0. ## Text | Function | What it does | | - | - | | `charindex(needle, haystack [, start])` | 1-based position of `needle` in `haystack`, or 0 if absent. `charindex('c', 'abcabc')` returns 3. | | `leftstr(s, n)`, `rightstr(s, n)` | The first or last `n` characters of `s`. Unicode-aware. | | `padl(s, n)`, `padr(s, n)`, `padc(s, n)` | Space-pad `s` to length `n` on the left, right, or both sides. A string already at least `n` long is unchanged. | | `proper(s)` | Capitalizes the first letter of each word. `proper('hello wORLD')` returns `Hello World`. | | `replicate(s, n)` | Repeats `s` `n` times. `n = 0` returns an empty string and a negative `n` is an error. | | `reverse(s)` | Reverses `s`. Unicode-aware. | | `strfilter(s, chars)` | Keeps only the characters of `s` that appear in `chars`. `strfilter('hello world', 'lo')` returns `llool`. | | `difference(a, b)` | Soundex similarity from 0 to 4. `difference('Robert', 'Rupert')` returns 4. `soundex()` itself is also available. | ```sql theme={null} SELECT proper(name), padl(code, 6) FROM products; ``` This documentation is built and hosted on [Mintlify](https://mintlify.com), a developer documentation platform.
